Now and Later.

DEFINITELY click one of the links in this blog so that you can take part in this great collaboration. The premise of the site is to write a note to the future you, and then pick a date that the message will be sent. No rules otherwise, just write to yourself, vent, share hopes for the future, or acknowledge the past!

"FutureMe.org is based on the principle that memories are less accurate than emails. We strive for accuracy."

All you do is write a short letter, enter an email address that you're likely to maintain for a while, and then pick a date for the email to be sent! I went for the 2 year plan, and I plan to go back and write another when I strike the mood. In a global community that is so obsessed with preparing for the future, this was a great chance to sit back and reflect on my own past versus my present, and it took me five minutes! Enjoy the site.

Now and Then.

Songwriting Club.

 "s1-phonebook"

love!
always there for you
if you remember where you placed it

soft to the touch
or is it rather that the texture's unfamiliar

turning the page
slowly becoming obsolete
in a world that needs to save more than the trees...

save the phone book
keep it on the porch
or right by the front door
as long as your address is registered
it will come
for all the family
the cover always changes
but the heart of the phone book
remains somewhat the same

imagine if the evolution of the digital age
stole all that we once knew
a simple phone book
once online would be
this great expansive thing
not the thick book with the thin page
made from recycled trees...

save the phone book
keep it on the porch
or right by the front door
as long as your address is registered
it will come
for all the family
the cover always changes
but the heart of the phone book
remains somewhat the same

the inside of the phone book
remains
somewhat
the same

Creativity did, in this case, inspire creativity in me. I wrote this song in response to reading a beautiful song on the same topic (phone books). Even though i thought the idea was grand, nothing seemed to spark interest enough for me to actually become a member of the Songwriting Club. I'm not even sure at this point if black people are allowed in, or who my felllow members are. I figure that since it's Black Music Month (check out apple.com to see how you can celebrate),  I would be allowed in on some type of default. So enjoy the lyrics, tell me what genre of song came to mind when you read the lyrics. I always put poetry to a tune and was wondering if that's the norm? The next topic for the songwriting club should be up shortly at d.o's blog, but membership will not be open forever, so get creative now!

Just a Reminder.

Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire.

Don't forget that!

...On Being Kind.

Being kind as opposed to being unkind just seems right in my head, never a question, as long as you keep the question that simple. Thing is, the question to be "KIND or UNKIND?" could easily become "KIND only when kindness is given?" or UNKIND when rude behavior is received?" It makes one think. Now to take this eternally broad introduction and narrow it down a bit for grammatically correct reading. ;-) Plato's philosophical thinking led him to this conclusion; "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Isn't that the truth though? And thank the Lord for quotes in my inbox, because sometimes you just need that miraculous reminder! A reminder that, in one simple sentence, says that you are ONE of TRILLIONS, that mortal life IS a constant battle, and that you are certainly not alone. The hard battle becomes easy before it gets hard again, because what goes up, MUST come down. Every participant, every life around us, holds a heart that is warm, supporting of it's kind, and we are all from the same dirt. I am always WE, and passing on the warmth that is the affirmation of such common knowledge is very, very KIND.

Playing Catch Up.

So things have been well, I've been pretty busy, never making the time to blog, but always thinking about things to blog about next. This time I'm relating the whole process to finding your voice. See, for those who don't know, I sing, and i've got a voice that has some heart behind it. I'm just not sure what my genre is...same thing with this blog. I want to narrow it down to something concise that i can consistently blog about. But for now I'll just tell you how life has been.

I went out of town for a couple days with Brybry and danna and company. Out to the ranch house for a bit of country living for the weekend. It was a nice escape from the city, I woke up to see bambi right outside my window, and killed more than my share of wasps over the duration of the weekend.

Also new is my job as a waiter, I've been at it for about a month now, and I can see how people could support themselves by being a waiter. That said, I've decided that I do not want to be one of those people that does so for the long run, though i do love what i do. The people at work are great, it's great to have a new group of people to meet, like, and dislike!

Next, my pops is doing well, he's gone back to work, and we'll see what progress he's made after the doctor visit next week. The holidays have arrived and I'm ready to start singing the songs of the season...that way i can but off having to find my own voice for a bit, and juyst sing christmas songs for the season! That's about all i've got, i gotta hit the bed and get my beauty rest, more and bettter posts to come!
